It Sounds Like You've Moved The Calendar App To The App Library.
It seems to be just that the icon has disappeared. The problem is only on the icon (see screenshot). This fixed the problem while in safe boot and then displayed today's date as expected. On your home screen, swipe left until you reach the app library.
